I often think about what defines happiness.
Yesterday, a close friend said to me, “Barry you just seem so happy these days.” I quickly said thank you, and moved our conversation along, but later today had a little time to reflect. Truthfully, I have felt a greater dose of happy lately. Aside from today, several have mentioned it and there are several things that have contributed to it but it got me thinking about happiness. How great it truly feels, and why more people don’t experience it or actively pursue it…
I left the closest thing I had ever experienced to urban living to live in the suburb of a suburb.
You might be asking yourself, what exactly is the suburb of a suburb and I would be quick to tell you that I left Fresno’s Tower District and a great two story townhouse in the perfect location for a three bedroom house in a cul-de-sac. The word cul-de sac, coincidentally comes from the french and literally means the “arse of the bag” or dead end. Self respect in hand, I refuse to think of this move (which happened about three months ago) as a metaphor for my life…
Today I came across the video for the new Macklemore & Ryan Lewis single. The song is called Same Love and features Mary Lambert. The song is about equality and specifically equality for LGBT couples. I confess, I was not expecting the music video to be all that interesting as music video’s these days don’t tend to be however, I was really struck by it…..
It seems all but certain that Measure G has been defeated. A few thoughts about its defeat and the continued fiscal crisis in the City of Fresno.
1. 59,200 votes. That was our turnout for an issue of this size and magnitude. Conservatively that is just under a $13 per voter cost to the city but that number may end up closer to $17 per voter. It is a real shame the turnout was as low as it was.
